GROWING IN GRACE AND KNOWLEDGE

March 02, 2014

Are You Coming For Bethany Family Camp 2014?

Bethany family camp 2014 is slightly less than two weeks away. It is going to be another exciting time of studying from the Holy Scriptures and discovering the Lord God and the Lord Jesus Christ. The theme for this camp is “My grace is sufficient for you”. During the morning classes for the interns, Pastor Charles has been teaching many wonderful and deep lessons about the grace of God from both the Old Testament and the New Testament. It has been really eye-opening to understand the grace of God in a whole different light. These wonderful truths concerning the grace of our Lord will be taught at our coming Family camp. You really do not want to miss it. If you have not signed up for this yearly event, please do so today.

Seeking To Be Steadfast In Our Faith

One of the reasons why we want to come and learn further is that we want to seek to be steadfast in our faith. The apostle Peter warned the pilgrims in the Dispersion that they were to take heed of false teachings that might cause them to be led astray.

“You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked”
2 Peter 3:17

These wicked people are false prophets/teachers who twist the Scriptures to their own destruction (2 Peter 3:16). They secretly bring in destructive heresies and lead others astray (2 Peter 2:1-2). Peter exhorted the brethren to guard themselves against such teachings. The way to remain steadfast is to keep growing in the grace of the Lord.

The Challenge To Grow Further

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.”
2 Peter 3:18

1. Understanding Grace And Knowledge Go Together

Peter’s use of the connective conjunction “and” denotes that the two ideas go very much together. In the text of 2 Peter 1:2, Peter wrote of how grace and peace comes through the deep knowledge of God and the Lord Jesus.

“Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord”
2 Peter 1:2

Grace and peace can be increased greatly when a person increases in knowledge. The more he knows God and the Lord Jesus, and exercises faith in them, the more grace is given to him. Grace and knowledge are closely related to each other

2. Seeking To Grow In Grace And Knowledge

Peter challenged the suffering pilgrims to grow in the grace and knowledge of God and the Lord Jesus. On the one hand, growing in knowledge helps us to grow in grace. On the other hand, growing in grace helps us to grow in knowledge. Even as we have tasted that the Lord is gracious (1 Peter 2:2), let’s seek to grow in the knowledge of the word of God. Let’s seek to grow in grace of God that we can also grow in knowing the Lord God and the Lord Jesus. Let’s plan to come for our family camp and seek to grow further in both grace and knowledge.
