“Unto Us A Son Is Given”

Messianic prophecies bring great excitement and joy to the heart, whether fulfilled or unfulfilled. Christmas should always be an exhilarating time for all when we remember the Lord’s birth in fulfilment of prophecies.

“For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given”

Isaiah 9:6

Of special emphasis is the phrase “unto us”. The Lord Jesus was specially given for us. This last Christmas was a wonderful time of remembering Christ’s work and the ramifications in our lives. He would bring light to the world and overcome the darkness that is in man. People would rejoice before the Lord like the shepherds did. The Son of God was given because of His great love for us that He might die for our sins. God’s love was manifested to us through the sending of His only begotten Son into the world that we might live through Him (1 John 4:9). This brings a great sense of joy to the heart.

Appreciating The Aspects Of Our King’s Name

“And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Isaiah 9:6

Beyond the image of Jesus as a baby, we have come to know and appreciate the Lord Jesus as our King. He is the reigning King of the spiritual kingdom of God. He bears all the responsibilities and authority of being our divine King. There are five aspects that we can appreciate of the Lord Jesus’ name. Firstly, He would be called wonderful. In the text of Judges 13:18-20, Manoah asked the Angel of the Lord (The Lord Jesus) what His name is. And the Angel of the Lord inquired why did he ask about His name, seeing that it is wonderful. Then, He did a wondrous thing by ascending the flame of the altar. Wow! Christ has done and will do wondrous things for His people. Secondly, the Lord would be a counselor to His people. When the Lord Jesus was on this earth, He constantly brought a word in season to His weary disciples and those in need (Isaiah 50:4). Thirdly, our Saviour will show forth His great might. This was demonstrated through His great signs and wonders that He did (Acts 2:22). Fourthly, He would be like a Father to His people. The Lord Jesus was like a Father to His disciples as they struggled with their faith and sins. Lastly, He is the One who will bring peace between God and us. Through Him, we have positional peace with God (Romans 5:1) and personal peace from God (Philippians 4:7). Truly, these are wonderful aspects of the Lord’s name that we can trust and rejoice in.

Exercising Great Faith For The New Year In The Prophecies Of Christ

“Of the increase of His government and peace
There will be no end,
Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom,
To order it and establish it with judgment and justice”

Isaiah 9:7

One day, the Kingdom of God will not just be a spiritual entity. It will be a physical entity on this earth. The Lord Jesus will establish His millennium kingdom on earth and His reign and peace will increase globally. There will be no end to His kingdom. The Lord Jesus will reign as our sovereign King from His throne and His rule would be established throughout the world. With judgment on the erring nations and with justice, He will reign over all. He will set up His banner for the nations and they will fly down upon the shoulders of the Philistines towards the west as a predatory eagle (Isaiah 11:14). The zeal of the Lord will perform this. All of us can be fully certain that the Lord will establish His kingdom one day. Let’s exercise great faith in the Lord establishing His kingdom soon. As we enter into the New Year, let’s come and study further about the Kingdom of God at the YPG. Let’s look forward to deepening our understanding of Christ and having a greater trust in Him.
