Taking Time To Focus On The Lord Jesus

Christmas can be considered one of the busiest times of the year. It is easy to be caught up with all the hustle and bustle of preparing for Christmas. It is important that we do not lose our focus on the Lord Jesus. Taking time to reflect and focus on the Lord and His word should be something we endeavour to do each year as we remember the most significant birth in human history. The Lord Jesus should always be the focus of our celebration at Christmas.

Focusing On Jesus As A Humble King

“There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse,
And a Branch shall grow out of his roots.”

Isaiah 11:1

It was prophesised by Isaiah that the Messianic King would come from the line of David. The tree being referred to by Isaiah is most probably an olive tree. A “Rod” is a reference to a shoot. The shoots of an olive tree actually grow out of its main root.

This was indeed a humble reference to the Lord Jesus as He came into this world, as explained by Pastor in one of his previous icare e-mails. From the royal line of David, (Jesse was the father of David) there will come a King who would rule. This Branch would indeed be fruitful and He would reign over all. The Lord Jesus would come as King and yet, He was referred to in a most humble way.

Focusing On Jesus As A Spirit Filled King

“The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him,
The Spirit of wisdom and understanding,

The Spirit of counsel and might,

The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.”

Isaiah 11:2

The Lord Jesus would rule with great wisdom and power from the Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit would come upon Him in His fullness. There are seven aspects to the filling of the Spirit of God. The Spirit would grant Him wisdom and deep understanding. The Spirit of God would give special counsel and empowerment. There would be tremendous depth of knowledge and the practice of the fear of the Lord. The Lord Jesus would submit to the guidance and ministry of the Spirit of God. He would be specially empowered by the Spirit as He lives and serves God on earth. There would be the fullness of the Spirit of God in His life.

Seeking The Filling Of The Spirit Of God At Christmas

Let’s also humbly seek to be filled with the Spirit of God during this Christmas time. Instead of being caught up with our own spirit or to be intoxicated with the wrong kind of “spirit” (liquor), let’s be filled with the Lord’s Spirit. Paul challenged the Ephesians to be filled with the Spirit (Ephesians 5:18). We are meant to seek to understand and know the Spirit of God well. Even as the Lord Jesus was filled with the Spirit of God, let’s seek to be too. Let’s know what is the will of God and choose to walk in wisdom. May we seek to be filled with the Spirit of God always. Blessed Christmas!
