Beginning And Ending The Day With Seeking The Lord

It makes a big difference to the day whether we seek the Lord or not. The Psalmist personally understood how important and urgent it was for him to make it an early morning event to meet with God and to commune with Him (Psalm 63:1). It was the spiritual dryness of his soul that motivated him to seek God and to discover His power and glory. In the midst of the wilderness, David not only started the day with the Lord. He ended it well too. There was sustained effort in seeking the Lord.

“When I remember You on my bed,
I meditate on You in the night watches.”

Psalm 63:6

The Psalmist took time to remember the Lord and what He had done for him. He specially spent time in the night to meditate on God and to follow close behind Him. The Psalmist found a special bond with the Lord as He sought Him. Let’s also seek to cultivate this habit of seeking the Lord in the morning and evening,

The Results Of Seeking The Lord

1. Having A Deep Appreciation Of The Lord

“Because Your lovingkindness is better than life”
Psalm 63:3

When David sought the Lord urgently and diligently, the Lord revealed Himself to him. He discovered how the Lord’s lovingkindness was far greater than life itself. He was able to appreciate the immensity of the Lord’s love. His soul was also deeply satisfied with “marrow and fatness” (Psalm 63:5). The Lord God was his constant help throughout each day. There was a depth of appreciation of the Lord in his life. Young people, let’s take time to reflect on the Lord’s love upon us. Let’s remember how God has been our help, both individually and corporately as a Church.

2. Rejoicing In The Lord

“Therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice.”
Psalm 63:7

“But the king shall rejoice in God.”
Psalm 63:11

As we appreciate the Lord and His lovingkindness, there would also be a great sense of joy. As David focused on the Lord despite going through a tough time, he was able to rejoice in the shadow of His wings. There was a deep sense of security and joy in the Lord. There was a sense of closeness with the Lord. Even the king found joy in the Lord. Let’s learn to also rejoice in the Lord.

3. Praising The Lord With Great Joy

“My lips shall praise you.
Thus I will bless You while I live;
I will lift up my hands in Your name …
And my mouth shall praise you with joyful lips.”

Psalm 63:3-5

Great joy would also be reflected in the way we sing and worship the Lord. The Psalmist determined that he will bless the Lord joyfully. As long as he was alive, he determined to sing praises to the Lord. His lips would praise the Lord’s God almighty. Young people, let’s seek to worship the Lord joyfully this Saturday at our pre-anniversary special worship. Let’s come and seek to praise the Lord and give Him all the glory with great joy.
