Delighting To Do The Will Of God

What is it that brings great delight to your heart? A sumptuous buffet dinner? A present from a dear friend? How about doing the will of God? I have come to realise that the greatest delight that we can have in life is to do the will of God. When a person has come to appreciate the Lord’s goodness, His works and His truths, he will consciously seek to do His will. He will desire to revolve his life around the will of God and not on himself. How can we go about learning to delight in doing the will of God?

1. Discovering The Will Of God In The Scriptures

“In the scroll of the book it is written of me.”
Psalm 40:7

For David, he discovered the will of God as he read the Scriptures. The will of God is explained and portrayed by many examples in the Bible. He appreciated the depth of God’s will and the grace and love of God shown through it. Young people, we too must discover the wonderful will of God for our lives. Let’s be committed to know the Scriptures that we may understand His will.

2. Hiding The Word Of God In Our Hearts

“Your law is within my heart.”
Psalm 40:8

David took time to hide God’s word in his heart. Because the will of God was important to him, he took time to meditate on and to memorise the Scriptures. He placed the laws of God within his heart. Our challenge is also to hide the word of God within our hearts. We are to read it every day till its truths are embedded within our hearts and imprinted on our soul.

3. Committing Ourselves To Do The Will Of God

“Then I said, ‘Behold I come'”
Psalm 40:7

David was also committed to doing the will of God. The will of God was not something that he understood with his mind only. He sought to internalise and implement God’s will in all that he did. There was the dedication to do the will of God. Young people, can we also emulate the commitment of the Psalmist?

4. Finding Delight To Do The Will Of God

“I delight to do your will”
Psalm 40:8

As the Psalmist sought to do the will of God, it naturally brought much delight to his heart. There was the blessing of the Lord in his life. He found strength and meaning in what he did. It became his delight to do the will of God. Let’s also find delight in doing God’s will. It may be a struggle at times, but the joy and peace it brings is worth it all.
