COME TO ME, ALL YOU WHO LABOUR

The Lord’s Invitation To Find Spiritual Rest

We all need help in life, especially help from the Lord Jesus. Foolishly, more often than not, we tend to think that help from the Lord is inconsequential to us. We deceive ourselves into thinking that we can make it on our own. How wrong we can be! Life would be most burdensome without Him. This was one of the reasons why the Lord sent out a gracious invitation to all who were weary and tired in life.

“Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28

There were those who laboured. The word “labour” means to become weary from working hard. There were also those who were greatly laden by life’s challenges and problems. These challenges of life can really get us down if we only depend on ourselves and our strength. The Lord Jesus sent out an invitation to all who were weary to come to Him. When we come to the Lord Jesus and find real and genuine faith in Him, He will give spiritual rest for our soul. There will come a special sense of peace. Our part is to answer that invitation and to believe in Him.

Learning From The Lord’s Example Of Labouring

“Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Matthew 11:29-30

Finding spiritual rest does not mean that we do not do anything at all. Instead, a true disciple of Jesus must learn to take on the yoke of the Lord Jesus. A true faith in the Lord Jesus will lead a disciple to want to serve. In the process of seeking to serve God, we must learn from His example. He is meek and humble in heart. He sought to serve in a gentle and lowly manner. When we learn from the Lord, we will find spiritual rest for our souls. We will learn how to bear the yoke bit by bit. After a while, the yoke that the Lord wants us to carry will not be heavy. We will discover that what God has prescribed for us to do in His word is not burdensome.

“For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.”
1 John 5:3

When we love the Lord, we will not find obeying His commandments burdensome. In fact, we will keep His word because we love Him.

Having A Spiritual “Time Out” At The Family Camp

We all need to take spiritual “time outs” from now and again. Let’s take time to come for our Church Family camp during the March holidays. It is during these six days of studying the word of God that we can find spiritual rest for our soul. We would be learning much from the Lord’s word. Let’s plan to take spiritual “time outs” that we may renew and revive our faith in the Lord.
