CHOSEN BY GOD

God has an amazing plan with reference to His salvation for us. His glorious plan includes the wonderful spiritual blessings that have been given and reserved for us in the heavenly places. Every spiritual blessing for salvation and for life has already been granted to us. It is up to us to know and to discover them and to make them applicable to our lives. Part of the Lord’s plan of salvation is how He has chosen us.

“Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love”
Ephesians 1:4

1. SOVEREIGNLY CHOSEN BY GOD

God is sovereign over all things in life. Paul wrote of how all believers have been sovereignly chosen by Him. This was done before the Lord God created the foundations of the world. It is not because we are good enough that He has chosen us. It is out of His own choice that He has.

2. GRACIOUSLY CHOSEN BY GOD TO BE SAVED IN CHRIST

“In Him” is a reference to the Lord Jesus. The Lord God chose us to be saved in Christ because of His great grace. Salvation is found in the person of Christ and His work on the cross. Even before time began, God had already a glorious plan of salvation in Christ. We are specially chosen to be part of it.

3. PURPOSEFULLY CHOSEN BY GOD TO LIVE FOR HIM

The Lord chose us so that we can be saved and to be set apart for Him. We can live our lives according to the purpose that He has planned for us. He saved us so that we may live for Him.

4. LOVINGLY CHOSEN BY A LOVING GOD

It is also out of the Lord’s great love for us that He chose us to be saved. He loved us even before any man ever existed; even before the world was created. His love for us is truly unconditional.

LIFE-LONG GOALS FOR OUR LIVES

There are life-long goals behind God choosing us.

1. TO BE HOLY

He wants us to be holy because He is holy. He wants us to reflect who He is.

2. TO BE BLAMELESS

The word “blameless” has the idea of moral uprightness. We are to live our lives in such a way that we are upright in all that we do. We are not to be blameworthy in the eyes of God and man.

MOTIVATION TO LIVE OUR LIVES FOR THE LORD

How can we be motivated to live for Him? Firstly, our understanding of salvation should motivate us much to live our lives well. There should come a sense of gratitude to God for choosing us. That gratitude should cause us to live well for Him. Secondly, the love of God should motivate us to live our lives purposefully. It constrains us to respond with love for Him and to follow Him.

PERSONAL APPLICATION

We are specially chosen to be saved and to live our lives purposefully for the Lord. Let’s seek to appreciate this amazing truth of what it means to be chosen graciously and lovingly by God. Let’s be deeply motivated to walk uprightly before Him. Let’s do this with a heart of love for the Lord.
