Personal Reasons To Keep The Word Of God

The word of God should be personalized and permanently imprinted on our life. It is never meant just for us to understand God and to gain knowledge about Him. The Word was meant to be placed in our mind and heart and to be lived out in our life. The Psalmist found powerful reasons to make the word of God an integral part of his life. He was greatly motivated to keep the word of God.

1. Being Greatly Blessed By The Lord

“Blessed are the undefiled in the way,
Who walk in the law of the Lord!”

Psalm 119:1

God desires to specially bless us. His blessings have to do with the way that He had prescribed for us to live. If we keep His word, we will walk in His ways. Those who walk blamelessly in His ways will be blessed by Him. Deuteronomy 5:32-33 emphasized the idea of how when we keep His word, we will live, be well and be blessed.Deuteronomy 6:24 tells us that keeping God’s word is for our good always. God blesses us richly when we keep His word.

2. Being Commanded By The Lord

“You have commanded us
To keep Your precepts diligently.”

Psalm 119:4

The Psalmist also understood that God had already commanded His people to keep His word. He understood what it meant to have the highest regard for God and His precepts. Moses wrote of how God commanded them to observe all the statutes that He had given to Israel and to fear Him (Deuteronomy 5:32). They were to be careful to observe all of God’s commandments before Him as He had commanded them (Deuteronomy 6:25). Young people, let’s respond by diligently keeping His word.

Personal Commitment To Diligently Keep The Word Of God

1. Seeking God And His Word With The Whole Heart

“Blessed are those who keep His testimonies,
Who seek Him with the whole heart!”

Psalm 119:2

Keeping God’s word and seeking God go together. The greater our commitment of heart to seek the Lord and to please Him, the greater would be our commitment to keep His word. When we seek and love Him with the whole heart, His commandments will not be burdensome (1 John 5:3).

2. Obeying The Word Of God

“Who walk in the law of the Lord …
They also do no iniquity;

They walk in His ways.”

Psalm 119:13

When we have a high regard for God and His word, we will walk according to His laws. We will choose not to do that which is wrong in His sight. Our challenge is to constantly cultivate a lifestyle where we would be obedient to God and His word.

3. Praying In The Light Of The Word Of God

“Oh, that my ways were directed
To keep Your statutes!”

Psalm 119:5

As we seek to obey the Lord, we will realise that it is not going to be easy to keep His word. Our challenge is to pray that our ways would become God’s ways. Let’s pray that He would lead and guide us to keep His word always.
