BEING STRONG AGAINST AN INVISIBLE AND POWERFUL ENEMY

Never Underestimate The Strength Of The Enemy

In wars, when commanders underestimate the strength of their enemy, they lose battles. It is vital that both leaders and soldiers know their enemy well. This is similar in spiritual warfare. We are at war against a vicious enemy and his hordes of fallen angels. We must never underestimate the strength of our enemies.

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
Ephesians 6:12

They consist of invisible, powerful rulers. They have tremendous authority. They are wicked, and their armies are well-organised and uncountable. They have no conscience and no mercy. If they can destroy our lives, they will. Are we ready and strong enough as soldiers of the Lord to stand against their attacks? Let’s seek to be.

The Challenge To Be Strong In Our Great Commander

By now, we will have realised that the demonic forces are far greater than human beings. We are no match for them if we engage with them in “one to one combat”. We can only be strong in the Lord.

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.”
Ephesians 6:10

The source of our strength is found in the commander of the Lord’s army, the Lord Jesus. He can and will make us strong. We are to be strengthened according to the greatness of His might. There is a tremendous power that is made available to us. How can we find this power?

1. Spiritual Strength Comes Through Spiritual Understanding

“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know… what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power…”
Ephesians 1:17-19

We can know and experience this great power of the Lord through spiritual understanding. When the Spirit of God enlightens us to the truth of God’s word, there comes strength to our souls. It is through a deeper knowledge of God and His word that we can find this spiritual strength. Let’s always seek spiritual understanding from the Spirit of God.

2. Spiritual Strength Comes Through Constant Prayer

“For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ… that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man.”
Ephesians 3:14-16

Spiritual strength also comes through much prayer. Paul constantly prayed for the Ephesian Church that they would be strengthened by the Spirit of God in the “inner man”. Humbly, we must come before the Lord God to grant us inner man strength. Let’s pray that the Lord will make us spiritually strong.
