The Call To Listen To God’s Teachings

God seeks to teach us each and every day. There is not a day that goes by without the Lord seeking to teach us. Are we seeking to learn from Him? In the book of Isaiah, Israel had stopped learning from Him. They had become rebellious and stubborn against His voice. The prophet Isaiah made a call to the people by exhorting them to listen to His word.

“Give ear and hear my voice,
Listen and hear my speech.”

Isaiah 28:23

The call was for the people to listen and hear. Twice, he repeated this call. It should have been the most natural thing for God’s people to do and yet it was hard for them to practice. Young people, let’s learn to heed this call to learn from the Lord.

The Illustration Of The Farmer Learning From God

“Does the plowman keep plowing all day to sow?
Does he keep turning his soil and breaking the clods?

Does he not sow the black cumin
And scatter the cumin,
Plant the wheat in rows”

Isaiah 28:24-25

How did the first farmers learn to farm the land? They learned such knowledge intuitively from God. They learned bit by bit that they should not just plow the whole day, but they had to level the ground too. They learned along the way that they were to sow the black cumin seed and the cumin seeds were meant to be scattered. Wheat grains were meant to be planted in rows. By experience, they learned that the barley was meant to be planted at appointed places only, and the spelt was to be planted along the borders. The first farmers learned all these from the Lord. He is the source of all knowledge of science and natural laws. He is the source of all discernment.

The Lord Teaches Us Discernment

“For He instructs him in right judgment,
His God teaches Him”

Isaiah 28:26

It was the Lord who gave the first farmers right judgment. The Lord was able to teach them to distinguish between right and wrong methods. One step at a time, He was their constant teacher until they knew how to go about it on their own. They allowed the Lord to teach them, and they gained a great treasure… discernment.

The Challenge To Have Discernment

Young people, do you treasure discernment and practical wisdom? The challenge is for us to seek after right judgment. It is the Lord who seeks to give us prudence. Let’s seek the Lord each day with the attitude to learn from Him… to increase discernment. Let’s pray for this wisdom. Let’s all be able to say that it is the Lord who instructs us.
