Cultivating A Thankful Heart

By now, most of you should have finished your exams or you are about to. Do you see the Lord’s hand aiding you through this stressful time? I am sure for many of us we can say that in more ways than one, the Lord was there for us throughout this period. Young people, our response to God should be one of thanksgiving.

“Be thankful to Him”
Psalm 100:4

The Psalmist challenged his readers to give thanks to God. We must learn to cultivate a heart that truly appreciates the Lord and what He has done for us. It is so easy for us to be unthankful. Let’s learn to cultivate a heart that is full of thanksgiving to God.

Compelling Reasons To Give Thanks To God

What are some compelling reasons for us to be thankful to God?

1. Because It Is The Result Of A Profound Appreciation Of God

“For the Lord is good;
His mercy is everlasting,
And His truth endures to all generations”

Psalm 100:5

The Psalmist had a deep and profound appreciation of God. The Lord had truly been good to him. He experienced the mercies of God in his life. He was able to see how God’s mercies were everlasting. He also recognised how God’s truths applied from one generation to another. He was most thankful to God because of who He was to Him. As we reflect on the Lord’s goodness in our life, let’s also learn to appreciate Him in a deeper way. He is our God and Shepherd. Let’s always be thankful to Him.

2. Because It Is The Right Kind Of Spirit In Worship

“Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise”

Psalm 100:4

The Psalmist saw how worship to God should always be given with a spirit of thanksgiving. The Psalmist made a call to the readers to have such a spirit as they came into God’s house. Worship should always be offered with a spirit of joy and gratitude. The Lord is pleased when we worship Him with the right kind of spirit.

The Challenge To Offer Thanksgiving And Praise To God

“Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.”
Psalm 100:4

As we come for worship this weekend, let’s praise God with heartfelt thanksgiving because He deserves nothing less. Let’s come to Him with deep gratitude for seeing us through these five months of school. May our hearts be full of joy that comes from valuing His mercies in our lives. Young people, let’s give the highest praise to His name.
