APPRECIATING REDEMPTION IN A DEEPER WAY

Taking Time To Go Deeper

Easter is a good time for us to appreciate further the Lord Jesus and our salvation in Him. Sometimes, we can be so caught with activities during Easter that we do not take time to appreciate Him and His work on the cross enough. One of the concepts that I am treasuring even more is “redemption”. The word “redemption” implies the idea of a slave at the traders’ auction block who has been bought by a compassionate new owner and given unconditional freedom. We too have been set free from sin by Christ paying the penalty of our sins on the cross. Young people, redemption is such a grand concept that we must seek to understand and appreciate it further.

Appreciating Paul’s Concept Of Redemption

1. Redeemed That We May Be Blessed

“Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree’), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus”
Galatians 3:13-14

Christ’s work of the cross redeemed the Jews from the curse of the law. If they had not fulfilled the righteous requirements of the law, the curses stated in the laws of Moses would apply to them. Christ became cursed (dying on the cross) that both the Jews and the Gentiles may be blessed. He was cursed that we may be specially blessed.

2. Redeemed To Be God’s Sons

“But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son… to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.”
Galatians 4:4-5

The concept of redemption also involves the idea of sonship. We have been redeemed that we may be adopted as sons of God. We are no longer orphans but true sons of God. He has given us His Holy Spirit who moves within us to call Him “Abba, Father”. What a great privilege! Let’s learn to relate to Him more as our heavenly Father.

3. Redeemed To Be God’s Special People

“Who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.”
Titus 2:14-15

The Lord has also redeemed us that we may be His own special people. The Lord seeks to purify us that we may be a people who would be zealous for good works. Let’s truly be full of gratitude for the redemption that the Lord has given us. Let’s deeply appreciate it and apply it through faith in all that we do in life. Happy Easter!
