THE GLORY OF THE GOSPEL OF GOD

Young people, do you realise how glorious the gospel really is? This was something that Paul recognised as he recalled how the gospel was entrusted to him. He had the highest regard for the good news of Christ.

“According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God”
1 Timothy 1:11

How do we see the glory of the gospel of God?

1. IT IS DIVINELY ORIGINATED

The source of the gospel is from the Lord God Himself. He is the originator of His own grand plan of salvation.

2. IT HAS A GLORIOUS CONTENT

The gospel is truly glorious because it is really all about God as our Saviour (1 Timothy 1:1) and the Lord Jesus as our hope of salvation. The Lord God is the One who is the architect behind this grand plan of salvation for mankind. The Lord Jesus is the Person by which salvation came about. It was through His death on the cross that we can have a great sense of hope. It is also through faith in Christ that grace, mercy and peace would be made available to us (1 Timothy 1:2).

3. IT IS THE SOLID BASIS FOR SOUND DOCTRINE

The gospel is also glorious because it is the basis for sound doctrine. Paul’s doctrine was according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God.

THE GOSPEL ENTRUSTED TO PAUL FOR MINISTRY

“Which was committed to my trust.”
1 Timothy 1:11

This glorious gospel was specially committed to Paul’s trust. The word “committed” in Greek has the idea “being believed in”. The Lord believed in Paul and entrusted him with the glorious gospel.

1. BEING ENTRUSTED WITH THE CONTENT OF THE GOSPEL

The apostle Paul was meant to know the content of the gospel of God well and to be responsible for it. The Lord Jesus personally revealed the gospel to him (Galatians 1:12) and he was driven to preach and teach it to the world.

2. BEING TRUE AND FAITHFUL TO THE CONTENT

Paul was meant to be true and faithful to the gospel of the blessed God. He was not to add nor subtract to what he had received from the Lord Jesus. He was to be faithful to the content of the gospel. Young people, we too need to know the content of the gospel and to be true and faithful to it.

3. PROVING OURSELVES

Paul sought to preach the gospel with great integrity. And he proved himself to be a faithful servant of God. The Lord’s trust in him was not in vain. Young people, let’s also seek to prove ourselves that we can true and faithful to the glorious gospel of God.
