THE CORE CONTENT OF GOD’S REDEMPTION

One of the things that we can give thanks to God with much gratitude is our redemption in Christ. What are the core contents of God’s redemption?

1. The Lord chose and saved us before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4).

2. He predestined us to adoptions as His sons (Ephesians 1:5).

3. He made us accepted in the Beloved (Ephesians 1:6).

4. He redeemed us through the blood of Christ (Ephesians 1:7).

It is indeed wonderful for us to appreciate the core contents of our redemption in Christ.

THE BASIS OF REDEMPTION IS HIS ABOUNDING GRACE

What is the basis of our redemption?

1. ACCORDING TO THE RICHNESS OF HIS GRACE

“According to the richness of His grace which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence …”
Ephesians 1:7-8

The basis of our redemption is the grace of God. According to the richness of His grace, He made it to abound towards us. The word “abound” in Greek has the idea of “furnishing one richly till it is overflowing”. The Lord’s grace was applied to each one of us differently and yet wonderfully.

A. ALL WISDOM

The giving of grace was not a randomly thought through idea. It was done with great wisdom. All of us come from different backgrounds and yet His grace would reach out to us individually in a special way. Nothing happens by chance. Each of our salvation stories is different. In wisdom, the Lord made His grace to be extended accordingly to us as individuals.

B. PRUDENCE

It was also done with deep practical understanding. There is much prudence in the giving of the Lord ‘s grace in our lives with reference to salvation and His spiritual blessings. We stand in awe of how the Lord’s grace reached out to us personally and in prudence.

2. ACCORDING TO THE GOOD PLEASURE OF HIS WILL

“… Having made known to us the mystery of His will according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself”
Ephesians 1:9

It is also according to His good pleasure that the Lord had made known the mystery of His will to all. The word “mystery” in Greek has the idea of something that had been kept as a secret but now has been revealed. This has to do with the church of God. It is according to the Lord’s good pleasure that He revealed this mystery to us. It is hard for us to understand the good pleasure of His will. And yet it is indeed a great privilege to be able to be part of the will of God. It is truly by His grace that we can appreciate anything at all about our salvation. Let’s truly thank God for His abounding grace and His wonderful will which He purposed for us.
