You Have Ordained Strength (II)

FROM FRAGILE BABIES TO FEARLESS WARRIORS

God created man with the potential to be overcomers. There is the potential of strength within each person, together with His mercy and help, to overcome the challenges of life.

Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants you have ordained strength, because of Your enemies, that You may silence the enemy and the avenger.”  Psalm 8:2

Who were the enemies of God? They were those who were wicked and evil. There were many enemies during the times of David who sought to attack and destroy the nation of Israel.  They would be considered as God’s enemies too. The Lord had a profound plan to overcome these enemies through “babies”. They, though they may be fragile, could grow up one day to be fearless warriors. God will silence the enemies and avengers through these warriors who are empowered with His strength.

DAVID – STRENGTH ENOUGH TO OVERCOME “GIANT” PROBLEMS

David was such an individual who had an insignificant birth but became a fearless warrior for God. In fact, he found the strength to overcome a “giant” problem by the name of Goliath.

When David faced him in an epic one to one match-off, he was fearless. There was that power from the Lord to strengthen him and it gave him the courage to face Goliath and to kill him.

1. Full trust in the Lord’s deliverance

Moreover David said,” The LORD, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of the Philistine.”  1 Sam. 17:37

David had past experiences of the Lord’s deliverance with reference to killing a lion and a bear. Because God was there for him, he was able to find full trust in His hand to deliver him from the hand of Goliath. There was that absolute trust in His Creator’s help.

2. Doing all things in the name of the Lord

You come to me with a sword, with a spear and with a Javelin.  But I come to you in the name of the LORD of host, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.”   1 Sam.  17:45

Another thing David held on to as he courageously faced Goliath was the name of the Lord. The name of the Lord represents everything that is of Him. Goliath may have trusted in all his weapons. But David’s full confidence was in the name of the Lord. Because he believed that God was the LORD of hosts, he was conscious that He would fight his battles for him. He sought to lift up the name of the Lord. He sought to overcome Goliath for the sake of His name and he did. As I reflect over this, I am amazed what a young man can do against a “giant” problem if he had faith. Young people, let’s also learn to do all things for the sake of the Lord’s name. Let’s seek to lift up His name in all that we do. He will strengthen us and enable us to overcome “giants.”
