Wait On The Lord

DON’T LOSE HEART, HAVE FAITH

One of the challenging things in life is learning to be patient. Sometimes, when answers from the Lord are not forthcoming and troubles continue to persist, we can end up losing heart. This was something that David was grappling with. He was going through a time of trouble (Psalm 27:5) and he determined that he would seek the Lord for help, especially seeking His face (Psalm 27:9). And yet at the next moment he struggled with feelings of being forsaken. When false witnesses had risen against him, he really felt as if he had lost heart (Psalm 27:12).

I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of living.”  Psalm 27:13

David was discouraged and he felt like giving up. The problem of course was that he was focusing on himself and he could not see beyond his predicament. The challenge in such situations is to exercise faith in the Lord and His goodness. The Psalmist finally did not lose heart because he believed with all his heart that he would see God’s goodness on him and that he would still be alive. Faith is being able to see beyond our present problem and to focus on the goodness of the Lord. As we seek to battle Covid-19 as a church and as a nation, let’s not lose heart. Let’s believe that we will see God’s goodness in the land of the living.

THE ENCOURAGEMENT TO WAIT ON THE LORD

Wait on the LORD; Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart. Wait, I say, on the Lord”   Psalm 27:14

As David was able to focus on the goodness of the Lord, he encouraged others to learn to wait on Him. Faith in God and His goodness became the basis of waiting on the Lord. He sought to challenge others to wait on the Lord for His intervention.

1. Our part  To be of good courage

We must seek to have good courage and to stay calm. We do not need to give in to fear and to despair.

2. God’s part – He will strengthen our heart.

When we wait on the Lord, He would renew our strength. We can press on and not faint (Isa. 40:31). Will this Covid -19 outbreak end soon? We don’t know. But the Lord knows. We have to wait on the Lord for His goodness and His strength. I am personally encouraged just by focusing on the goodness of the Lord. With my focus on Him and His goodness, I can see beyond this one month or more and learn to quietly wait on the Lord. We can be of good courage and not be afraid. Let’s seek the Lord to strengthen our heart and He will. Let’s learn to wait patiently for the Lord to help.
