In The Shadow Of His Wings

I was deeply impacted by Pastor’s DML message on the concept of being in the shadow of the Lord’s wings. It is a truth that I have continued to dwell on and have sought to fill my heart and mind with as we enter 2021. Pastor was speaking on this wonderful revelation concerning how David could hide in the shadow of the Lord’s wings (Psalm 17:8). This was something that he responded to and reverted to again and again. There are two main thoughts that I would like to focus on.

1. Residing in the shelter of His wings

From the ends of the earth I will cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I…. I will abide in Your tabernacle forever, I will trust in the shelter of Your wings.” Psalm 61:2,4

Sometimes, the reality of the problems of life can overwhelm the heart. In times like this, as David dwelt on the Lord, there was movement towards the rock that was on a higher plane than him. He sought to reside in God consistently. He determined to abide in His tabernacle forever and to fully trust in Him. He was able to find that refuge and protection in the shelter of the Lord’s wings.

The challenge for us is to also reside in the Lord and to hold fast to His truths. We can trust in the Lord, remain in it and He will sustain us. We can abide in the word, go back to it again and again, till it resonates within us. The Lord and this truth are meant resonate within our heart and mind deeply.

2. Rejoicing in the shadow of His wings

Because you have been my help, therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice. My soul follow close behind you. Your right hand upholds me.” Psalm 63:7

Moments with God caused David to have greater movement towards Him. He was making greater progress in seeking the Lord. He began to seek Him early in the morning. He also sought Him in the evening. The Lord’s lovingkindness drew him to Himself. Movement towards the Lord will cause David to rejoice in Him. There will come a special sense of joy in Him as we review and reside in the Lord. This joy is something that He will give to us. It will be alive and real within us. As we continue with 2021, let’s reside in the Lord till there comes this special sense of joy in Him. Let’s rejoice as we abide in His presence and follow close behind Him. His right hand will specially uphold us.
