I AM THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE

LACKING IN FAITH WHEN FACING DEATH

Death can happen to anyone at anytime.   There is no way for us to determine when our lives would come to an end.   It can happen at a time when we least expect it.   Sometimes, it can come suddenly to a loved one.  When Lazarus died, Mary and Martha, his sisters, were not ready for it.   Despite their faith in Jesus, they were still grieving and sorrowing as if there was no hope.   They struggled with their feelings at the loss of a beloved brother.  They both wished that the Lord Jesus had been with them earlier so that He might have healed Lazarus (John 11:21.)   This was defective thinking.   They were obviously lacking in faith in the face of death.    The Lord Jesus even sorrowed at the way Mary and others wept.

DEVELOPING FAITH IN JESUS AS THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE

“I am the resurrection and the life.  He who believes in Me though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.  Do you believe this?”   John 11:25-26

The challenge is to have a faith in the Lord that will help us see beyond this life to eternal life in heaven.  The Lord Jesus powerfully declared that He is the resurrection and the life.  He has the power to raise people from the dead.  The disciples saw the glory of God when Lazarus was raised from the dead.  The Lord Jesus also has the power to give people eternal life in heaven.   They can resurrect in the afterlife to an eternity in heaven.  Believing in Jesus does not mean that we will never die.  Even though we may die physically, we can live spiritually in heaven.  Our souls will resurrect in the afterlife.  When we live spiritually on this earth and continue to believe in Him, our soul can live on forever.   It will never die in heaven.  This is truly amazing!

This is the eternal life that the Lord gives.   We can see beyond this earthly life to a heavenly life.  Our challenge is to cultivate our faith in the Lord Jesus.    The Lord Jesus had gone ahead and has prepared a place for us in heaven (John 14:2-3.)  In our Father’s house, there are many rooms waiting for us.   This is the Lord’s promise and assurance.  Do you believe this?

This Easter season, I renew my faith in the Lord Jesus as the resurrection and the life.  I can live a life that is blessed by the Lord in this life.  I can also see beyond this world to an eternal world in heaven.   I am deeply assured that my loved ones who have gone ahead are with the Lord in heaven today.

Young people, we must learn to start having faith in the Lord Jesus as the resurrection and the life.  Let’s learn to cultivate faith that will stand strong in the face of death.
