“Seek First the Kingdom of God”

Pastor had asked us to put into practice what it means to be a fountain of living water as mentioned in John 4:14. Together with the other interns, I had a wonderful time listening to her testimony as she faces cancer. Through our interactions with Whee Ling, I’m greatly encouraged by how God and His word were still her focus despite circumstances. She reminded me of how precious life really is and how it is only but a wind that passes by on this earth. As I think about who I was in the past and how much time I have wasted on useless things, I questioned myself. Would I rather be a slave to myself and to this world or would I want to make my life count for something?

As I studied from the Gospel of John and as I learnt more about Jesus and His works in greater depth, there came a different set of priorities. Instead of having a life centered on myself, I want a life that is centered in Christ. Though there are struggles along the way, there is now a greater sense of determination to continue to put away the old Sherlyn and to continue putting on a new person. I must say that it isn’t the easiest job. However, I dare say that the internship programme had made a kick-start to the changes in life.

“ But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.”

– Matthew 6:33

This was the verse the children memorised during Family Camp. Though easy to memorise it’s tough to practise. Having said that, tough does not mean impossible. As I start school this week, I’m going to hold on to this verse tightly and to keep my focus on the Lord with a mindset of only wanting to glorify Him.
