Sun’s Day

Did you know that the sun accounts for 99.8% of the mass of our solar system! That is amazing, isn’t it! According to Curious about Astronomy.com, the Sun has a radius 100 times that of the earth. The width of the Sun is 1,391,980 kilometres. The earth on the other hand is 12,756 kilometres. This means that about 1 million Earths could fit into the Sun. The sun is also an amazingly bright star. If you could take the 50 closest within 17 light-years of the Earth, the Sun would be the 4th brightest star in absolute terms. Although the Sun is huge, when compared to the other suns in the universe, it is tiny. Last year, scientists discovered R136a1. It is considered the most massive star ever discovered. It is said that it may have once been 320 times the size of the sun. And yet these suns are seen as only small masses of fire when compared to the universe.

ENJOYING THE SUNSHINE

“In them He has set a tabernacle for the sun, which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, rejoices like a strong man to run its race.  Its rising is from one end of heaven, and its circuit to the other end; and there is nothing hidden from its heat.”
– Psalm 19:4-6

David saw the sun as only a tent when it was seen in the light of the Universe. The word “Tabernacle” is a reference to a tent. In the big scheme of things, the sun is considered only a small tabernacle. Even though it is small,  the Psalmist sees the excitement of the sun in its rising each day. The Psalmist compared it to a bridegroom that has come out of his chambers. There is the excitement in looking forward to his marriage. It is also compared to a strong runner about to run his race. His race circuit is likened to the sun rising in the east and to its setting in the west. There is just a great sense of excitement seen in this work of our Lord. You could sense the deep excitement in David as he wrote these words. Let’s seek to enjoy what the Lord has created for us.  Let’s take time to enjoy the sunshine.
