Relationship With The Lord Jesus

This photo was taken on the roof of Jayam IP Church in Chennai, India, last week. Those who had never been to Jayam IPC were being shown around. And as the sun was setting on a hot humid day, the cross lit up at 6pm. Looking back on this picture, I was reminded of the message that Pastor gave to the Indian brethren that evening.   He emphasised the importance of having a relationship with the Lord Jesus from the book of Revelation.   Revelation 2 – 3 were messages from the Lord Jesus to the messengers of the Churches in Asia. They were meant to have a close and deep relationship with Him.   They belonged to Him. And when that relationship with the Lord Jesus was not treasured, things would naturally go wrong. This was what happened to five of the seven Churches being addressed by Him. They did not have a good relationship with Him and so He had every right to correct and chastise them.     The challenge for the Churches was to have this close relationship with the Lord Jesus.

LEARNING TO BE A OVERCOMER

When we have a right relationship with the Lord, we will find the faith and strength to be overcomers. The word “overcome” is used seven times in Rev. 2-3.

  1. To him who overcomes

To him who overcomes…” Rev. 2:7

The emphasis was on the Lord Jesus with regards to the person who is overcoming.   The Lord would give His blessings on this person who has indeed overcame the challenges of life. He will enjoy the riches of His blessings in eternity.

  1. He who overcomes

He who overcomes…” Rev. 2:11

The focus is now on the person who is overcoming the challenges and difficulties of life. He must seek to practise overcoming as an on-going endeavour. By the grace of God, we too can be overcomers. Young people, let’s seek to overcome the difficulties of life with faith and hope in the Lord Jesus.
