“EVERYONE! THIS IS MARY FROM BCDC, MYANMAR”

She is one of our orphans who grew up at our Bethany orphanage (BCDC) at Tahan, Myanmar.   She has been working in Singapore for the last six years, looking after older people in Singapore families. One recent Wednesday afternoon, she dropped by Church and introduced herself as Mary. Initially, it was hard recognising her. But as I took out the old photographs that were taken years ago, I found this photo of her performing with other orphans at a worship service. All of a sudden, I remembered who she was when I last visited BCDC with Pastor. I am really glad that she can earn a living and save enough to buy a house for herself and family members in the near future.  I am thankful to the Lord for the work that Bethany has started at BCDC. These kids were very young then, but they were cared for and provided for. And now they can have a chance to earn a living and to send money back to their family members.

PURE AND UNDEFILED RELIGION BEFORE GOD

Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.”  James 1:27

I am reminded of what James had written about pure and undefiled religion. James used the two adjectives “pure” and “Undefiled” which are similar in meaning for emphasis. True faith and religion must be seen in our life and our actions. There is no point just talking about faith when our life does not show for it.  When we think we are religious but are not careful in how we speak, we deceive ourselves and our religion is worthless. Pure and undefiled religion is demonstrated before God our heavenly Father when we reach out to widows and orphans in their time of trouble. We are also not to be defiled by the things of the world.

Bethany sought to help Mary when she was a very young girl in desperate need and by God’s grace, she had been given a life that is hopeful. We thank God for this. Let’s learn to have a heart for the present orphans at our BCDC in Myanmar. Let’s seek to have a heart of love for them and to give towards the work of missions.
