Text: Daniel 10:1-21

Dear Young People,

WAITING UPON THE LORD MOST PATIENTLY

We have an excellent example in Daniel as one who knew how to wait upon the Lord patiently. Let us take time to ponder this text.

“Now on the twenty-fourth day of the first month,
as I was by the side of the great river, that is, the Tigris,
I lifted my eyes and looked…”
Daniel 10:4

Let us compare this text with the text written just before,

“In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia
a message was revealed to Daniel…

In those days, I, Daniel, was mourning
Three full weeks…”
Daniel 10:1-2

Daniel literally waited upon the Lord for three whole weeks! Imagine Daniel waiting upon the Lord, one week after another! Day after day, week after week, no answer came! Still, he waited upon the Lord most patiently! Are we as patient and as perseveringly when it comes to waiting upon the Lord to reveal spiritual truths to us?

PATIENCE AND PERSEVERANCE REWARDED

Daniel was well rewarded for his attitude of patiently and humbly waiting upon the Lord.

“I lifted up my eyes and looked,
and behold a certain man clothed in linen,
whose waist was girded with gold of Uphaz!
His body was like beryl, his face like
The appearance of lightning, his eyes like torches of fire,
His arms and feet like burnished bronze in color,
And the sound of his words like the voice of a multitude.”
Daniel 10:5-6

This was vision of a powerful person! Who was this being? If we take time to read a text in the Book of Revelation, we are truly astonished at this special visitation Daniel was given. Take time to read Revelation 1:13-16! Though there are differences, and John’s vision was far richer, there are enough similarities to suggest that Daniel was greatly honoured! For his love of the truth, his patience and perseverance he was given a special vision of the Pre-incarnate Christ! What an honour!
