The God of Peace

“On a rare sunny day in October, I visited the highest mountain in Germany where I saw the peaks of the Bavarian alps laid out before me as far as my eyes could see. That glorious day was topped off with a stroll along the lake Eibsee at the base of the mountain. As I sat down and took in the view, my heart was filled with worship as I reflected on how the Lord has been that Rock of strength and peace throughout this exchange journey.

Isaiah 26:3-4
You will keep him in perfect peace,
Whose mind is stayed on You,
Because he trusts in You.
Trust in the LORD forever,
For in YAH, the LORD, is everlasting strength.”
Being here in a foreign land has made me realise that I can be quite a fearful person. I fear for physical safety amidst political uncertainties and the fact that it gets dark at around 5.30 p.m. here. When I travel, I fear missing my trains (and being stranded somewhere) and pickpockets. And, as in Singapore, there remains the anxiety that comes with deadlines and exams in school.

Amidst these fears and uncertainties, the Lord gently reminds my weak heart that He is stronger and steadier than this unshakable mountain. As I learn to keep my focus on the Lord through dwelling on His Word, I am thankful for the peace that comes which dispels my fears.

May this picture always be a reminder that though the physical preparations are necessary, and lest I trust in my own hands, the ‘heart’ preparations of dwelling on the Lord is what will bring peace to the soul!”
