Let Your Faith Be Bigger Than Your Fear

When I was young, one of my greatest fears was of the dark. I remember running around my house and switching on all the lights at night so that I could walk around my house ‘safely’. Growing up, this fear of the unknown was something that would often plague me. When faced with new challenges, I would respond first with trepidation and note how inadequate I am to face these challenges.

One such challenge I had this year was taking a graduating cohort for the first time. There were points in the year when I felt overwhelmed by the work I had and I feared that I did not have the ability to achieve the goals that had been set before me. But throughout the year, the verse I kept close to my heart was Psalm 62:8,

Trust in Him at all times, you people;
Pour out your heart before Him;
God is a refuge for us.”

I learnt to trust in the Lord and prayed that it would be my faith, not my fears, that I choose as a response each time. My sister took this picture of me when we were in Perth this year. This is near the famous Blue House along Swan River and as I stood there, I remember feeling very thankful for the great and amazing God we have. This picture serves as a reminder to me that though I may be small, and the problems of life may threaten to overwhelm me, the Lord of heaven and earth watches over me.
