Finding Strength In The Lord

Hello everyone, I’m Alvina! By God’s infinite grace, I have concluded 16 years of formal education in Singapore. I recently graduated from Nanyang Technological University with a degree in Sport Science and Management. God’s grace was evident when He granted me the opportunity to study a course of my choice, and when I learnt many precious lessons throughout my four years in university.

One of the many precious lessons learnt is to rely on the Lord for His strength each day. I recall never-ending assignments to be done, content to be studied and projects to be completed. There were even times projectmates left their work incomplete, leaving me with extra work. Those were times my own strength failed. Weariness and doubt set in. Doubt on whether the Lord will help me through the things I had to do.

But it was also in such times that the Lord’s word became more precious. A verse I have kept close to my heart all this while is from Isaiah 40:31. It reads:

But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.”
Isaiah 40:31

Prophet Isaiah wrote of how those who wait on the Lord will have their strength renewed.

Like the people of Israel, I sought to discover God as the giver of strength. Instead of being overwhelmed by weariness, I was constantly challenged to focus on the Lord to wait on Him and to place my hope in Him. Exercising faith meant knowing that He will help me through those times when the workload seemed endless. I chose to cling on to the promise of renewed strength that the Lord grants. It was then that I rediscovered God to be One who neither faints nor wearies. Imagine the strength of a majestic eagle that takes flight – that was the kind of strength the Lord granted me as I turned to Him for help!

With the Lord’s strength, I had found the stamina to press on with what I had to do. The workload neither decreased nor got any easier to complete. However, I found a renewal of strength to complete all the assignments and projects on time.

This is a precious lesson I’m challenged to continue applying in my life. This strength from the Lord, that is likened to a majestic eagle, can be yours too if you learn to wait on the Lord, exercise faith and place your hope in Him!
