The profound will of God

The concept of the will of God is most profound. It is not easily understood. Yet, studying this concept is exciting as we see its reality in our life. One amazing aspect of the will of God is our glorious salvation. God’s plan of salvation is all part of His divine will for us. When I think about my salvation, I stand in awe of how I was saved. Its profundity is found in how the Lord Jesus came to offer salvation to us.

The will of God in salvation

1. The will of God for Jesus

a. God determined His will for the Lord Jesus

“For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.” (John 6:38)

God sent Jesus down to earth to do His will. His determined plan was for the Lord Jesus to bring salvation to those who will believe in Him. It is such a profound plan to think of God sending His only Son to save us.

b. Jesus was committed to fulfilling His Father’s will

He did not come down to do His own will. Jesus was determined to fulfil God’s will. He came as the bread of life so that those who believe in Him may find eternal life and true spiritual satisfaction (John 6:35). They will never be spiritually hungry or thirsty again.

2. The will of God for all true believers

a. God will give them to the Lord Jesus (John 6:37, 39)

The heavenly Father will draw true believers to the Lord Jesus (John 6:44). They will be given to the Lord Jesus. It is such a profound thought. We see God’s will involved in drawing us to the Lord Jesus, who will give us salvation.

b. They will come to the Lord Jesus in faith

Those who believe will come to the Lord Jesus (John 6:37). They will see the Lord Jesus as their Saviour. They will come to believe in Him as the Son of God (John 6:40). It is God’s will for all who have faith in the Lord Jesus to be saved.

The glorious promise of salvation

As we come to the Lord Jesus in faith, we will not be cast out or be lost (John 6:37, 39). We will have everlasting life and a place in heaven when our life on this earth has ended (John 6:40). One day, we will be raised by the Lord Jesus to be resurrected with Him with a new glorious body (John 6:39, 40). What a glorious promise that the Lord has given to us in our salvation. It is all part of God’s deep and divine will.

Standing in awe

I stand in awe of the profound will of the Lord in giving me salvation. It is profound to think of how it was God’s will to send His only Son to save us, even though we are sinful and undeserving. As we think of the will of God in how He drew us and gave us to the Lord Jesus, I’m amazed. We could have easily rejected the Lord. Many have rejected Him and will continue to do so. I thank God that His will for me is to believe in Him and to hope in His resurrection. Let us stand in awe of how profound the will of God is in His salvation plan.
