The worth of the blood of Christ

When I think about the blood of Christ, I think of its worth. Can we put a value to the blood of Christ? It would be impossible for us to place a price on the Lord’s blood. The worth of His blood is just too great for us to put a value to it!

Why is this so? As we consider the significance of the blood of Christ, we would be able to have a deeper appreciation of the worth of the blood of Christ.

The significance of the shedding of the blood of Christ

What is the significance of the Lord shedding His blood for us?

  1. It is only through the blood of Christ that He would be a propitiation for our sins

“Being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood,” (Rom 3:24, 25)

Due to our sins, God’s wrath would be upon us. As a Holy God, He would have to judge us. How can His wrath be appeased? Who is worthy to appease Him? Only Christ is. It is only through the blood of Christ that payment can be made for our sins. Christ is set forth by God as the propitiation…the satisfaction of His righteous wrath.

No one would be able to appease the wrath of God as the Lord Jesus did. Let us truly appreciate the Lord Jesus Christ as the propitiation for our sins.

  1. It is only through the blood of Christ that we are brought near to God

“But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.” (Eph 2:13)

When we are without Christ, we are far away from God. We were truly distant from God. When we believe in Christ Jesus, we are brought near to God.

Only by means of the blood of Christ that we are brought near to the Lord. We have been cleansed of our sins by His blood. God does not see our sins anymore so we can come close to God and commune with Him. Let us understand that we are deeply indebted to Christ for bringing us near to God.

  1. It is only through the preciousness of the blood of Christ that we can be redeemed

“knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.” (1 Peter 1:18,19)

The redemption of Christ was not paid with the temporal things of the world like silver or gold. No matter how wealthy a person may be, he is unable to buy redemption.

Only the Lord Jesus could redeem us through His precious blood. He is the perfect Lamb of God who was without blemish or spot. Only with the sacrifice of His blood that redemption from our sins can be effected. All of us are blood-bought. Let us truly have a deeper appreciation for significance of the shedding of the blood of Christ.

Let us never take the shedding of the blood of Christ for granted but to always be indebted to the Lord for the great sacrifice that He made for us. Let us love Him and give Him praise always.
