Cultivating the same spirit of faith

It has been a joy to be back in Yangon and to see the development of our mission work here. We saw another batch of students graduate from BTS seminary, Yangon. We thank God for raising up more labourers to be sent out into the harvest field.

The theme that Pastor Charlie focused on was “The same spirit of faith”. The Apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthian church, “And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed and therefore I spoke,” we also believe and therefore speak,” (2 Corinthians 4:13) Paul had a certain spirit of faith. He was an example to all. His fellow-workers and the church of Corinth had the same spirit of faith as Paul. Let us be challenged to learn from his example of having the right spirit of faith.

The theme for YAG in 2017

The same spirit of faith will also be our focus in YAG in 2017. We too want to cultivate the same spirit of faith that Paul had. We will be applying this theme in our understanding of the book of Philippians…how Paul was able to have the same spirit of faith with the brethren in Philippi. Let us look forward to another year of growing and deepening of our faith.

The spirit of Bethany

Pastor Charles also revealed what the spirit of Bethany is all about. This was something that he has cultivate in Bethany for over 43 years. What are some of the features that make up this spirit of Bethany?

1. Boldness (Acts 4:13)

There should be boldness to preach the word of God as the Apostles did.

2. Evangelism (Matt 4:17)

The Lord Jesus reached out to the people by calling for them to repent as the Kingdom of God was at hand. Let us seek to follow His example in doing the work of evangelism.

3.True to God (Acts 4:20)

The Apostles remained true to the Lord in speaking about the things that they had heard despite receiving threats not to do so. Let us follow their example to be true.

4. Holy (1 Peter 1:15,16)

The challenge is for us to be holy as the Lord is holy.

5. Acknowledge God and His mercies (Ps 118:1)

There should always be the acknowledgement of God and His mercies in our life.

6. Near to God (Ps 73:28)

It is also good for us to draw near to God in trusting in Him.

7. Yielding fruits (Matt 7:16–20)

Lastly, let us be challenged to become trees that will yield fruits in our life and ministry.

Together, the first letter of each feature forms the acronym “Bethany”. This is the spirit of Bethany. In the weeks ahead, I will be writing about these different features that form the spirit of Bethany. Let us determine to cultivate the same spirit of faith…the spirit of Bethany.
