Touched by the Lord Jesus

The Lord Jesus came to this earth with a great sense of purpose. He came to make a difference to the world by touching their lives. He seeks to touch the lives of all. All of us are meant to be touched by Him. Yet there are many who still have not been touched by the Lord at all. More than just the first touch, we are also in need of the second touch of the Lord. Only when we are touched and able to see clearly that we may live our life as Christ meant it to be.

The first touch of the Lord Jesus

“Then He came to Bethsaida; and they brought a blind man to Him, and begged Him to touch him.” (Mark 8:22)

When Jesus went to Bethsaida, the people brought a blind man to Him. They begged Him to touch the blind man. Jesus decided to lead the man out of town. He drew the blind man away from the crowd, out of town, as He did not want to do it in front of the crowd who were focused on the healing ministry.

The Lord touched the blind man’s eyes with His hands using spit. This was the first touch of the hands of the Lord Jesus on the blind man. Then He asked whether he saw anything.

“I see men like trees, walking.”

Usually, the Lord’s healing was instantaneous. This time, the blind was not healed instantaneously. There was only partial vision, “And he looked up and said, “I see men like trees, walking.” (Mark 8:24) The blind man looked up and he only could see to some extent.  He said that he saw men like trees and they were walking. He could not distinguish between the tree and men due to his partial vision. The Lord Jesus healed the man partially, which was most unusual.

The second touch of the Lord

“Then He put His hands on his eyes again and made him look up. And he was restored and saw everyone clearly.” (Mark 8:25)

The Lord Jesus touched the man once again. He placed His hands on the man’s eyes again and told him to look up. There was full restoration. The man’s eyes were made completely well and he was able to see clearly.

The significance of the second touch

The healing of the blind man was something special that the Lord Jesus did for him. But there was a greater significance for the disciples. There was an important lesson for them to learn through this process. The first touch is experiencing salvation. The disciples had already been saved. But they were in need of a second touch in their life. Without the second touch, the disciples would not be able to distinguish between trees and man. They needed to be more discerning than they were…to have a deeper understanding

People tend to think that salvation is enough and there is no need for a walk with the Lord. They see men as trees walking. They continue to have blindness and are in darkness. Let us be challenged to grow in the knowledge of the Lord’s Word…that we may grow our faith in the Lord Jesus. Let us be challenged to have greater spiritual sight and to see our whole life constantly touched by the Lord as we seek to walk with Him.
