Worshipping a glorious God

As we learn more about the glory of God, it should affect the way we worship the Lord. David was able to reflect the proper way of worshipping our glorious God in one of his psalms. What was he conscious of?

He wrote, “Give unto the Lord, O you mighty ones, give unto the Lord glory and strength. Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.” (Ps 29:1,2) David was conscious of the Lord, a name that he used many times in this psalm. He ascribed glory and strength to Him. God is a God of great glory. (Ps 29:3) He is the source of divine strength. There is great beauty in His holiness. David’s response was to worship Him and to give to Him the glory that He was deserving of.

The voice of the Lord in nature

David was able to observe the voice of the Lord in the realm of nature. The voice of the Lord is over the many waters…a reference to the seas. (Ps 29:3) His voice is also over the trees such as the cedars, “The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars, yes, the Lord splinters the cedars of Lebanon.” (Ps 29:5) The voice of the Lord is also over the fire, “The voice of the Lord divides the flames of fire.” (Ps 29:7) His voice shakes the wilderness like an earthquake, “The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness; the Lord shakes the Wilderness of Kadesh.” (Ps 29:8) Amazingly, David was able to sense the voice of the Lord in everything that God had created.

The glory of the voice of the Lord

“The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders;” (Ps 29:3)

Behind the voice of the Lord is the glory of the Lord. The voice of the Lord can be heard in thunders. It is something that is most obvious. It is the God of glory who speaks His voice, something that David was able to observe and appreciate.

David was able to interpret the voice of the Lord. He wrote further, “The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.” (Ps 29:4) David described what the voice of the Lord was.

  1. It is powerful. His powerful voice is very much reflected in nature, such as we see in the power of the seas and thunders.
  2. It is full of majesty. His majestic voice is observed in everything God has created.

Let us be challenged to sense the glory of God in His voice.

Inspiring worship collectively

“And in His temple everyone says, “Glory!”” (Ps 29:9)

David gave a call for everyone to observe and sense the glory of the voice of the Lord in nature. As we are inspired, we are called to come together to give glory to the Lord. It is the kind of worship that we want to give as a church collectively. The glory of the voice of the Lord is so powerful and majestic that it should inspire us to give worship. Let us not turn  a deaf ear to hearing the voice of the Lord in nature. Let us see, hear and sense the glory of the voice of the Lord and to give our God of glory the worship that He rightly deserves.
