The focus for 2022

As we enter into 2022, I thank God for His Word that gives us the needed focus to face the challenges of the year ahead. With the ongoing pandemic and many uncertainties remaining, let us be encouraged to have the right focus in our minds and hearts.

One goal that I’m seeking to reach more consciously this year is to meditate on Bible verses that have become significant to me and to commit them to memory. I plan to share my thoughts and reflections about what I have learnt concerning these verses in Grace Works. Let us be challenged to recall the Scriptures and relate them to our lives more consciously.

Entrusting our times into the Lord’s hand

The first verse for this year that I have committed to memory is Psalm 31:14,15, “But as for me, I trust in You, O Lord; I say “You are my God.” My times are in Your hand;” Pastor Charles taught this at DML, and it has given me a greater sense of focus as we commenced 2022.

1. Reaffirming our trust in God

“But as for me, I trust in You, O Lord;” (Psalm 31:14)

a. An affirmation of trust

David made a declaration of his faith in God. He went beyond just having a basic trust and confirmed his deeper and more complete trust in God.

b. Not in self or others

David did not rely on himself or anyone else. In facing the adversities and troubles of life, he sought to trust in God alone. There was no one better to place his trust in. As we begin another challenging year, I seek to reaffirm my faith and trust in the Lord alone.

2. Deepening our appreciation of our relationship with God

“I say, “You are my God.” (Psalm 31:14)

a. A close relationship with God

David had a personal and intimate relationship with the Lord. He spoke of the Lord as his God. In having a deeper relationship with God, David learnt to trust Him fully.

b. Relating in different ways

David related to God in multiple ways. The Lord was his rock, fortress and strength (Psalm 31:3,4). He trusted the Lord to bless him according to his needs. Let us deepen our relationship with the Lord that we may trust in Him for all that He is.

3. A profound thought

“My times are in Your hand;” (Psalm 31:15)

a. Our times

The Lord has given us life for yet another year. But we do not know what the year will hold for us. Whether they are good or bad times, let us commit them to the Lord. Whether in life or death, let us learn to entrust our times to the Lord.

b. In God’s hand

All things that happen to us are part of God’s will. The challenges that we will experience in the year ahead are according to His plans. Let us stand in awe of this profound thought. Let us trust in the sovereign hand of God. We may face more difficulties at work or family issues may worsen in 2022. Let us be challenged to enter the year with assurance, hope and confidence that our times are in the Lord’s hand.
