Joy In The Presence Of The Lord

Coming before the presence of the Lord

It is indeed a special blessing to come before the presence of the Lord. The Psalmist gave special encouragement to all, “Come before His presence with singing.” (Ps 100:2) Being in the presence of the Lord involved being in the house of the Lord. The tabernacle or the temple was where the divine presence of God dwelt.

During this COVID-19 virus situation, only a limited number of people can worship in church. We hope that more of us would be able to come and worship soon. Through this experience, we do not want to take this privilege for granted, but want to find a greater sense of joy each time when we have an opportunity to come into the house of the Lord.

The spirit of joy in coming into the presence of God

Each time when we come into the Lord’s presence, there should be a spirit of joy.

  1. We are encouraged to make a joyful shout in exuberant worship to the Lord. (Ps 100:1)
  2. We are challenged to offer humble service to Him with gladness of heart. (Ps 100:2)
  3. We are to enter the house of the Lord in the spirit of grateful thanksgiving. (Ps 100:4)
  4. We are to ready ourselves to sing joyful songs of praise to Him. (Ps 100:4)
  5. We are to come before His awesome presence to bless His holy name. (Ps 100:4)

(For now, we should sing in our hearts when in church due to the COVID-19 virus measures.)

There is no greater joy than to be in the presence of the Lord. Let us be encouraged to have the spirit of joy in our worship and praise to the Lord.

Reasons for having a spirit of joy in the presence of God

What are some of our reasons to cultivate this spirit of joy?

1. The privilege of knowing God…“Know that the Lord, He is God;” (Ps 100:3)

We have been given a profound privilege of knowing the Lord, who is our God. He is our great Creator, “It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;” (Ps 100:3) We did not create ourselves but were created by God. We are nothing before Him. Yet, we can know Him. Let us joyfully stand in awe that we can know God at all…a real privilege.

2. A personal relationship with God

We can also have a personal relationship with the Lord as our Shepherd, “We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.” (Ps 100:3) It is amazing to know that we are called His people. He specially cares for us as His sheep by leading us to green pastures. Let us rejoice and appreciate this relationship…that the Lord would personally relate to us in this manner.

3. The great person of God

What is God like? We want to discover the great person that God is. He is good. (Ps 100:5) He has everlasting mercy. (Ps 100:5) His truth that is revealed endures to all generations. (Ps 100:5) We have every reason to rejoice in discovering the great person of God and coming before His great and awesome presence.

As we celebrate Bethany’s 47th Anniversary, there is much for us to rejoice in. As we come to the house of the Lord, let us cultivate this spirit of joy in worship and praise of Him.
