Grace Works Week 16 BannerEvery night can be a good night

An important part of the day that is often overlooked is the end of the day. Many of us tend to be tired and worn out when we come to the close of the day. All we want to do is either to ‘vegetate” in front of the television or to go to sleep early.

Yet it is good for us to consider how we can bring the day to a good close. We can end the day focusing our thoughts on the Lord and have a sense of stillness before going to bed. The Lord can help us make every night a good night.

One thing to focus on in the evening

As we end the day, what is one thing, among many others, that we can focus on? It is to dwell on the faithfulness of God. The Psalmist wrote, “To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning, and Your faithfulness every night,” (Psalm 92:2) As much as we want to begin the day thinking about the lovingkindness of the Lord, we also want to close the day pondering on the faithfulness of God.

It is good that we give time and effort to reflect over how faithful the Lord has been to us. There may have been challenges and difficulties during the course of the day, but the Lord is always faithful to us. Let’s seek to meditate on the faithfulness of God.

Reasons for meditating on the faithfulness of God

Why did the Psalmist choose to meditate on the faithfulness of God?

1. Reflecting on the faithfulness of God

The faithfulness of God is sometimes better seen from hindsight. We may have different experiences, both good and bad, throughout the day. Yet we recognize, on reflection, that the Lord has been faithful to us by keeping us through each challenge encountered. Let’s seek to reflect on the faithfulness of God at the end of each day.

2. Feed on His faithfulness

“Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.” (Psalm 37:3)

It is also good that we learn to feed on the Lord’s faithfulness. We may be truly spent due to work and the rigors of the day. Feeding on the Lord’s faithfulness can bring a revival to the soul…to bring delight and trust to the heart again. May we be challenged to feed on the faithfulness of God.

Setting our heart to be still

When we dwell on the faithfulness of God, we can end each day with joy and thanksgiving. There is much that we can give praise and thanksgiving for. We can find renewal of heart and feel a sense of stillness as we focus on the Lord and His faithfulness. We can also experience a peaceful rest as a result. Let’s be challenged to end the day thinking about the faithfulness of God and to close the day on a good note.
