The 20th YAG retreat has finally come

As a YAG, we have been preparing for this 20th YAG Retreat with much anticipation. We thank God for blessing us for the past 19 retreats and we look forward to His blessing us again at this 20th Retreat. We have about 206 people signed up. This is the most that we have ever had for a Retreat. We truly thank God for all who will be coming for this event. We recognise that it is due to the Lord’s work and blessing. Let’s look forward to a special time in studying the Lord’s Word and in celebrating the Lord’s goodness these 10 years.

Deepening our understanding of oneness

At this Retreat, we hope to deepen our understanding of oneness. Such depth of oneness is truly exemplified by the Lord Jesus and His heavenly Father. The Lord Jesus described this kind of oneness a number of times in His prayer for His disciples and for all believers.

“Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are.” (John 17:11)

“That they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You;” (John 17:21)

“And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one:” (John 17:22)

The word “as” in Greek is the word “kathos”. This word is made up of two Greek words … “kata’ and “hos”. The first word means “according to” and the other means “as”. Together, we have a much more intensified word which means “just as” rather than just “as”. The depth of oneness that the Lord prayed for His disciples and for all believers was according to the same depth of oneness that His Father and He had. But what was this depth of oneness like?

Oneness manifested by the Lord and His Father

There are a number of instances in which we can see how deep the oneness that the Lord Jesus and His Father had with each other.

1. With regards to the will of God

“Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.” (John 4:34)

The Lord Jesus was one with His Father with regards to His will. The Lord Jesus knew what God’s will was for Him. He aligned His own will to His Father’s will. He declared to His disciples that His food was to do the will of His Father who sent Him. His desire was to finish that work. What a deep sense of oneness that the Lord had with His father concerning His will! Let’s be challenged to have this depth of oneness in fulfilling the will of God.

2. With regards to the work of God

“Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.” (John 5:19) We observe the depth of oneness that the Lord had with His Father as He worked in tandem with Him. Whatever His Father did, He did the same. When His Father created the world, He did the same in being co-creator. There was a deep sense of oneness as they worked together. Let’s be challenged by the example of the Lord Jesus in how we serve and work together. Let’s be challenged to have the same deep sense of oneness just as the Lord Jesus and His Father had.
