Be Inspired

The need for inspiration

As we travel on this journey of life, it is vital that we recognise our need for inspiration. We need inspiration to go through the challenges of life. It is with inspiration that we can serve the Lord full of life and vigour. If we do not have inspiration, we find ourselves going through the motions of life and serving the Lord mechanically. If we are tired out, then we are not being inspired. When we are inspired, we are energised and empowered to live our life every day. There will be new energy for each new day. As inspired servants of the Lord, we would be able to inspire others.

Finding inspiration

What should be our inspiration? Inspiration comes from different forms. Pastor Charles shared at the pastoral conference in Myanmar the different sources of inspiration.

1. Inspired by common things

Common things can be an inspiration. An example would be family. Our families can give us inspiration for our life and ministry. Another would be friends. For the sake of our special friends, we find the inspiration to serve.

2. Inspired by the calling of Christ to serve

All of us have been specially called by the Lord to be His disciples and to serve Him. (Luke 5:1–11) Our calling to be His servants should inspire us…to become the kind of servant that is about ministering and inspiring others.

3. Inspired by seeking God

We recognise the need to be inspired by the Lord for each day. The challenge is for us to seek the Lord, “When You said, “Seek My face,” my heart said to You, “Your face, Lord, I will seek.” (Psalm 27:8) Even the Messiah had to learn to be inspired each morning as He sought His Father. (Isaiah 50) Let us be inspired by seeking the Lord each morning.

4. Inspired by the Word of God

We can all find tremendous inspiration from the Word of God. When we meditate on a verse or passage and gain deeper insights, we can be greatly inspired to live for the Lord and to serve Him. The Word of the Lord is meant to give us life no matter what we go through, “This is my comfort in my affliction, For Your Word has given me life.” (Psalm 119:50)

5. Inspired by the filling of the Holy Spirit

Inspiration comes also through the filling of the Holy Spirit. In what ways was the Lord Jesus inspired by the filling of the Holy Spirit? The Prophet Isaiah wrote, “The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.” (Isaiah 11:2) Let us seek the filling of the Holy Spirit and be inspired.

6. Inspired by the church

The church…Bethany and its people should also be an inspiration for us. Due to the close bond that we have with each other, we seek to minister out of love for each other. There many sources in which we can be inspired. Let us be challenged to find the inspiration that we may live inspired lives and be inspired servants of the Lord.
