The kingdom of the Lord shall not be shaken

It is always amazing to study about the kingdom of God so that we may better appreciate it. We have a glorious and awesome kingdom in which we have God as our King. As His royal subjects, we are privileged to serve Him with reverence and godly fear. I’m glad to be part of the kingdom of God.

We learnt last Saturday that this kingdom cannot be shaken, “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken,” (Heb 12:28) This kingdom is immovable…it is totally unshakable. It will always be able to triumph over all who will go against it. Let us appreciate how this kingdom will continue to remain.

The triumph of the church

Part of the kingdom of God is the church of Christ. The church is also able to triumph over all…no matter the enemy. The Lord Jesus declared, “And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.” (Matt 16:18) How is the church able to triumph?

1. Christ as the foundation of the church

The name “Peter” in Greek is “petros” which means “small stone”. The word “rock” is “petra” which means “bedrock”…a solid foundation which is a reference to Christ.  (1 Corinth 3:11) There is a huge difference between a small stone and bedrock. The Lord Jesus is the solid and unshakable “bedrock”…the foundation of our church. Nothing can move it.

2. He has ownership of the church

The Lord proclaimed the church as His church. It does not belong to anyone else. The Lord has personal ownership of the church and He will not allow anything, no matter how powerful, to overcome His church.

3. The church is His work

The Lord promised that He will build the church. He will make the church strong…to become invincible. Nothing is going to tear it down. It will be victorious. It will always be able to stand.

The gates of Hades will not prevail against it

The church will have to face great spiritual warfare from the forces of Satan. Yet his forces will not be able to prevail. The word “prevail” means to “have power over”. This means that the gates of Hades will never be able to overpower the body of Christ. The church will triumph because of Christ.

Celebrating Bethany’s 40+3 Anniversary on a triumphant note

As we consider the victorious church of Christ, we thank God for watching over Bethany these last 43 years. Bethany continues to stand firm on the foundation of Christ whose work remains solid and immovable. Let us seek to give praise and worship to the Lord for keeping us a victorious church despite the many challenges that we have encountered. Let us continue to remain united as one and to place Christ as the centre of our church. Let us celebrate 43 years of the Lord’s work in Bethany and for building our church to what it is today.
