Reaching out at the Mid-Autumn festival

This Saturday, Bethany will be holding our Mid-Autumn Festival programme. We are coming together as a church to seize this wonderful opportunity for all of us to be a blessing to the elderly, especially in reaching out to those who still don’t know the Lord.

Families will be bringing their parents and grandparents. It is always a joy to my heart to see these seniors coming into our midst. Some may be familiar to us as this is not the first time that they will joining us but some will be totally new. Nonetheless, we should all look forward to getting to know these seniors and to reach out to them.

Reaching out to those who are still outside Christ

As we approach this Saturday’s programme, what is my perspective as we seek to minister to each one?

1. Sharing the joy of our faith

This occasion will be an opportunity for us to share the joy of our faith. The faith that we have is one that is filled with joy. Paul used the words “joy, rejoice and glad” 18 times altogether in his epistle to the Philippians. He personally had this joy of faith that was very evident in this epistle. He also wrote of the joy of faith of the Philippian brethren. (Phil 1:25)

It is this joy that we hope to share with those who will be coming this Saturday. We seek to share this joy through the time of worship that we going to have, through the song items that will be given and through the fellowship that we will experience. Let us seek to come this Saturday filled with the joy of our faith and ready to share this joy with all who will be there.

2. Furtherance of the gospel

This Saturday’s programme will also be an opportunity for us to share the gospel of Christ. Paul wrote to the Philippian church while in prison, “that the things which happened to (him had) actually turned out for the furtherance of the gospel,” (Phil 1:12) The Greek word for “furtherance” is “prokope” which means “progress or advancement”. Paul used the opportunity to share his testimony to the prison guards to advance the gospel. All that had happened to Paul turned out for the progress of the gospel of Christ.

During our worship programme, Annie Ho will be sharing her testimony. Pastor Charles will be giving a word concerning our faith in a living God. We hope and pray that through each part of the programme, especially through the preaching of the word, the gospel will be shared further. Let us be challenged to do our part in the furtherance of the gospel.

3. Fellowship in the gospel

“for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now,” (Phil 1:5)

There will be the opportunity for us to fellowship together after the programme. While we seek to relate to those who are new, let us seize the opportunity to fellowship in the gospel. Let us pray that we will be able to share the gospel with those who still don’t know the Lord. May the Lord begin a good work in each one who will be coming. As we prepared for this Saturday, let us look ahead to an exciting time of reaching out and being a blessing to all.
