A Timely Check

Half time

6 months have come and gone. We have come to the mid-point of the year. It is at this juncture that we should take time to review our life and ministry…to ascertain how the year has been for us thus far.

It is prudent for us to review and to reflect how we have sought to live. It is not just a matter of what we have learnt, for we would have learnt many lessons these past 6 months.

But what is it that has become a reality to us…with regards to our life and ministry?

Areas for us to review

Through our study of the epistle to the Philippians, we see how the Apostle Paul sought to address different areas of concern for the church. These are some areas that we should review and address too.

1. Regarding our focus in life

What have we been focused on in our life these past 6 months? What have we centred our life upon?

For the Apostle Paul, it was all about Christ, “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” (Phil 1:21) Whether it was life or death, his focus was centred on Christ. All that he lived for…all that he did was for Christ. Have we sought to live a Christ-centred life?

2. Regarding others

How have we fared in relating with others? How have we sought to regard the people around us…especially in church?

Paul prayed specially for the brethren, “that (their) love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment,” (Phil 1:9) Whether it was fellowshipping in the gospel or serving alongside each other, Paul sought to demonstrate love that truly abounded more and more. He loved them with the affections of the Lord Jesus. (Phil 1:8) Have we sought to love in a more abounding and discerning manner?

3. Regarding our mind

Also, how have we sought to develop our mindset? Has our mind grown more spiritually inclined?

Paul challenged the brethren to have the mindset of Christ, “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,” (Phil 2:5) The mindset of Christ was one of having lowliness of mind and the mindset of a humble servant…one who is obedient to the end. Have we been able to develop the mindset of Christ these last 6 months?

Let us take time to consider these few areas of our life and ministry to check. If there are areas to be addressed, let us be challenged to deal with them. Let us be challenged to work towards greater growth and maturity in our life and ministry.
