Entering our 48th year of ministry

Last Sunday, we had a wonderful time of celebrating our 40 + 7th anniversary. Though it was unlike what we would usually experience at the Shangri-La, the worship service was still a blessed and significant time.

Even as we enter our 48th year of ministry, let us be challenged to begin with a new spirit of faith. We do not want to feel weary and tired out as we commence this new year. Let us be challenged to cultivate a good and strong spirit of faith.

Looking ahead with faith

What are some of the things that we would like to cultivate as part of this new spirit of faith in this coming year?

1. A new spirit of happiness

“Happy are the people whose God is the Lord!” (Ps 144:15)

I appreciated how Pastor Charles ended the anniversary message. While we recognise that problems and difficulties will continue, the Lord will also continue to bless and to be personally involved in our lives. Our challenge is to pray that we may be happy.

Our happiness is found in the Lord. He alone can bring true happiness into our life and ministry. It is what our faith in the Lord should cause us to pray for…to be happy in the Lord even though we may be facing difficulties in life. Let us commence our 48th year with a new spirit of happiness.

2. A new sense of hope

There should also be a real sense of hope. With the new year, there comes new hope too. Our hope is found in the Lord Himself. (Ps 146:5) The Psalmist wrote of how we can be happy in the God of Jacob, who is our help. In whatever difficulties we may face, we can hope in the help of God.

He is our God who is Creator, Judge and Provider of all things. He has the power to do all things. The Lord can help us in our time of need. Let us cultivate a faith that would give us greater hope in Him. Let us be challenged to find a new sense of hope in facing the adverse circumstances of life ahead.

3. New heights of learning to reach

As we embark on this new year, we want to reach new heights of learning. We want to go deeper in learning that we may grow our faith. King David prayed, “Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God.” (Ps 143:10)

Amidst great challenges such as facing his enemies, David sought to humbly learn from the Lord…to be taught His will and to do it. He sought to be led further by the Spirit of God. (Ps 143:10) It is the kind of vibrant faith that we want to grow too…learning to do the Lord’s will and to follow His leading. As we look ahead, let us seek to grow our faith to new heights of learning from the Lord.

Let us cultivate a new spirit of faith in facing the challenges of life and ministry.
