Christ is alive

We thank God for Easter…that we can celebrate the resurrection of Christ. He is alive! Yet going beyond the victory that Christ has given to us over death, how should we see the resurrection in the context of our daily life?

The resurrection of Christ is a firm reminder of what it means for us to be alive. As He is alive, we can be alive too. Yet for many, we are not alive as we should be.

Being alive does not necessarily mean that we are truly “alive”

All of us are given life and we recognize how precious and short that life is. Shang Shui’s death is a sobering reminder of our mortality. Yet with whatever physical life that we have left in the years ahead, how spiritually alive would we be?

According to the Apostle Paul, if we truly understand our faith and the grace that has been extended to us (Rom 6:1,2), we should no longer be dead in sin but be alive in Christ.

Living a life that is alive in Christ

1. Alive through baptism into Christ

“Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” (Rom 6:4)

Baptism is our way of identifying with Christ…being in His death and His resurrection. As God raised Jesus from the dead, He would also raise us…to come alive and to walk in newness of life. Are we living a life that is alive in Christ…to walk in newness of life?

2. Alive to God in Christ

“Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Rom 6:11)

While being alive, Christ lived His life to God. We should do the same and should consider ourselves dead to sin. No more should sin be alive to us. We should be alive to God… relating to Him and thriving in Him. Are we living a life that is alive to God in Christ Jesus?

3. Alive as instruments of righteousness

“But present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.” (Rom 6:13)

How would we present ourselves to God? We should present ourselves alive to God…that the members of our body would be as instruments of righteousness and not as instruments of unrighteousness. Are we living a life that is alive as instruments of righteousness?

Let’s be challenged to live a life that is truly alive in Christ.
