THEME: “CALLED”

APPRECIATING THE DIFFERENT ASPECTS OF OUR CALLING

1. The One who has CALLED

a) It is God who has called
b) And He is holy (1 Peter 1:15)
c) We are CALLED to be holy (1 Peter 1:15)

2. Circumstances of our CALLING

a) CALLED out of darkness into His marvellous light (1 Peter 2:9)
b) CALLED o be God’s people when once we were not His people (1 Peter 2:10a)
c) CALLED to obtain mercy when once we were without mercy (1 Peter 2:10b)

3. CALLED to follow Christ Jesus and His example of suffering

a) Christ also suffered for us
b) Leaving us an example (1 Peter 2:22-23)
i) He committed no sin
ii) No deceit found in His mouth
iii) He did not revile in return
iv) He did not threaten
v) He committed Himself to God who judges righteously
c) To this you were CALLED

4. CALLED to inherit a Blessing (1 Peter 3:9)

a) Some blessings come about only when we fulfil certain conditions
b) This special set of blessing comes from living a righteous life
i) A blessing of life (good days) (1 Peter 3:10a)
ii) Refrain the tongue from evil and deceit (1 Peter 3:10b)

iii) Turn from evil and do good (1 Peter 3:11)

iv) Seek and pursue peace (1 Peter 3:12a)
c) Encouragement to the heart
i) God’s eyes are on the righteous
ii) His ears are open to their prayers (1 Peter 3:12b)

5. CALLED to God’s eternal glory (1 Peter 5:10)

a) The God of grace has CALLED us
b) CALLED to His eternal glory
c) He will establish, strengthen and settle us

a) Natural response
With joy inexpressible (1 Peter 1:6)
b) Response that comes with knowledge and understanding

d) Response that comes after testing
Joy inexpressible (1 Peter 1:9)
