THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH

THE JUST

1. The Just

a) Dikaios
b) Interchangeable word with “righteous”

2. Who are the Just?

a) Compared against the unrighteous
i) Their deeds are recorded (Romans 1)
ii) They will face judgment from God (Romans 2)
b) But all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3)
i) All are under sin
ii) Under the law, no flesh will be justified in God’s sight
c) The Just – refers to the justified
i) They been justified by God
ii) They stand justified before God

BY FAITH

1. It is by faith we are justified

a) There is a righteousness of God apart from the law (Romans 3:21)
b) It is imputed to us through faith (Romans 4:24)
i) Sins forgiven
ii) We receive the righteousness of God

2. The elements of faith

a) Jesus Christ
i) Redemption is found in Him (Romans 3:24)
ii) He was set forth as a propitiation by His blood (Romans 3:25)
iii) Delivered up because of our offenses, and raised up because of our justification (Romans 4:25)
b) God
i) His grace (Romans 3:23)
ii) His forbearance (Romans 3:25)
iii) His righteousness (Romans 3:26)

THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH

1. Faith and life go together

2. Example of how one lived by faith – Abraham (Romans 4)

a) Contrary to hope, in hope believed
b) Not being weak in faith
i) Did not consider his own body, already dead
ii) And the deadness of Sarah’s womb
c) Did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief
d) But was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God
e) Fully convinced of God’s promises
