THE HIGH PRIESTHOOD II

SACRIFICES FOR SIN (Hebrews 5:1)

1. The sacredness of the Priesthood

a) Challenged by the sons of Korah (Numbers 16)
b) Supported by lay leaders
i) Dathan (Numbers 16:1) (Reuben)
ii) Abiram (Numbers 16:1) (Reuben)
iii) 250 leaders (Numbers 16:2)

2. The charge of rebels against Moses and Aaron

a) You take too much upon yourselves
b) All the congregation is holy, every one of them
c) The LORD is among them
d) Why do you exalt yourselves above the assembly of the LORD (Numbers 16:3)

3. The counter charge of Moses

a) The LORD will show who is holy (Numbers 16:5)
b) He will cause him to come near (Numbers 16:5)
c) You take too much on yourselves, you sons of Levi (Numbers 16:7)
i) Is it a small thing? (Numbers 16:8-11)
ii) God has separated you from the congregation of Israel
to bring you near to Himself
iii) To do the work of the Tabernacle
iv) To stand before the congregation
v) To serve them
vi) Brought near to Himself
vii) Are you seeking the priesthood too?
viii) You and all your company are gathered together against the LORD

4. Moses to Dathan and Abiram

a) He asked them to go to the meeting place (Numbers 16:12)
b) They rejected this invitation (Numbers 16:12)
5. Accusation against Moses/ Aaron by Dathan and Abiram (Numbers 16:13-14)
a) Is it a small thing?
b) You have brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey
c) To kill us in the wilderness
d) Acting like a prince over us
e) You have not brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey
f) Nor given us inheritance of fields and vineyards
g) Will you put out the eyes of these men?

6. The anger of Moses (Numbers 16:15)

a) Do not respect their offering
b) I have not taken one donkey from them
c) Nor have I hurt any of them

THE ANGER OF THE LORD

1. Sons of Korah perished

2. Dathan and Abiram and families (Numbers 16:28-35)

COMPLAINTS OF THE PEOPLE

1. Accused Moses of killing the people (Numbers 16:41)

2. God angry with these rebels too (Numbers 16:44-45)

AN URGENT WORD TO AARON

1. The plague has begun (Numbers 16:46)

2. High priest Aaron
Stood between the living and the dead (Numbers 16:48)

3. Thousands died (Numbers 16:49)
