REBELLION

1. Korah (Levite)

2. Dathan and Abiram (sons of Reuben)   (Numbers 16:1)

3. 250 leaders   (Numbers 16:2)

a) Representatives of the congregation
b) Men of renown

4. Gathered together

CHARGE LAID AGAINST MOSES AND AARON

1. Charged with exalting themselves   (Numbers 16:3)

2. Everyone is holy   (Numbers 16:3)

MOSES’ RESPONSE

1. He fell on his face (Expression of sorrow ad humility)   (Numbers 16:4)

2. The Lord Himself will indicate who is holy   (Numbers 16:4)

3. The Lord will indicate who has been called to draw near to Him   (Numbers 16:4)

4. The taking of censers

a) Incense is to be put in the censers
b) Fire to be put in the censer

5. Counter charge by Moses Korah and his sons are charged with “taking too much upon (themselves)”   (Numbers 16:7)

REBUKE GIVEN TO KORAH

1. Their ministry as Levites

a) Separated to the Lord   (Numbers 16:9)
b) Brought near to the Lord   (Numbers 16:9)
c) To do the work of the Tabernacle   (Numbers 16:9)
d) To stand before the congregation   (Numbers 16:9)
e) To serve the people   (Numbers 16:9)

2. They now desire the priesthood   (Numbers 16:10)

MOSES AND AARON

1. Their objection to their roles was unfounded

2. Who were they (but appointed by the Lord)?   (Numbers 16:11)

A WORD TO DATHAN AND ABIRAM

1. He asked them to come up   (Numbers 16:12)

2. The defied and rejected this word   (Numbers 16:12)

3. Their reasons

a) Accused of taking the people out of Egypt
b) Egypt was called a land flowing with milk and honey   (Numbers 16:13)
c) Accused of killing people in the wilderness   (Numbers 16:13)
d) Accused of acting like a prince   (Numbers 16:13)
e) Moses had not brought them into the Promised Land   (Numbers 16:14)
f) He had not given them their inheritance   (Numbers 16:14)
g) Putting out the eyes of the men (if they were to come up)   (Numbers 16:14)

ANGER OF MOSES

1. These were spurious charges

2. Moses became angry   (Numbers 16:15)
