Moses’ Despair

Text: Numbers 11:16-30

MOSES’ DESPAIR

(Numbers 11:10-15)

1. Made known to the Lord

2. He was in obvious despair

GOD’S ANSWER

(Numbers 11:16-20)

1. 70 Elders to be especially appointed to help Moses

2. They will be anointed by the Spirit of God

3. God will give meat to the children of Israel

4. Provision comes with rebuke

a) They will get sick of the food
b) They had despised the Lord
c) They had doubts about their exodus from Egypt

MOSES’ STRUGGLE WITH UNBELIEF

(Numbers 11:21-22)

1. There were 600,000 men

2. Could God really provide sufficiently?

GOD’S CHALLENGE

(Numbers 11:23)

1. Is God’s hand shortened?

2. Now you shall see

THE ANOINTING OF THE ELDERS

(Numbers 11:24-25)

1. 70 elders chosen

2. They were anointed by the Spirit of God

3. They prophesied

THE ANOINTING OF TWO OTHERS

(Numbers 11:26-30)

1. Eldad and Medad

They were not listed among the 70

2. The Spirit of God came upon them as well

3. They too prophesied

JOSHUA’S CONSTERNATION

(Numbers 11:28)

1. Moses, my lord

2. Forbid them

MOSES’ RESPONSE

(Numbers 11:29-30)

1. Are you zealous for my sake?

2. Oh, that all the Lord’s people were prophets

3. And that the Lord would put His Spirit upon them
