“THAT IT MIGHT BE FULFILLED”

 

(I) AN OUTSTANDING FEATURE OF THE LIFE OF CHRIST

1. That He knew the Scriptures

a) He taught as One having authority

b) He was the Living Word of God


2. That He came to fulfil the Scriptures

a) Consciously

b) Humbly

c) Faithfully

 

(II) THE TRIUMPHANT ENTRY OF JESUS INTO JERUSALEM

1. Prophecy (Zechariah 9:9)

a) Jesus as King

b) Yet sitting on a colt, the foal of a donkey (Matthew 21:5)


2. Prophecy Fulfilment

a) With understanding

b) With trust

c) With humility

 

(III) A SPECIAL MOMENT OF PRAISE

1. The disciples obeyed the Lord Jesus (Matthew 21:6)


2. The multitudes sang His praise (Matthew 21:8-11)

a) They did not have full understanding of the Identity of Jesus

b) They thought He was a prophet of God for they had seen His miracles


3. The praise given

a) Correct

b) In fulfilment of the Scriptures

 

(IV) OUR CHALLENGE

1. To emulate the example of the Lord Jesus

a) In knowing the Scriptures

b) In seeking to fulfil the Scriptures


2. To manifest the life of Jesus in our mortal flesh

a) Obedience

b) Faith

c) Humility
