The Captain of Our Salvation

Text: Hebrews 2:1-13

AN APPRECIATION OF THE ROLE OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

1. But we see Jesus

a) Made a little lower than the angels
b) For the suffering of death
c) That He might taste death for everyone
d) Crowned with honour and glory

2. Jesus called “The Captain of our Salvation”

a) The Captain (Literally… the Leader)
b) The Leader of our salvation
i) He suffered
ii) He died
iii) He saved
iv) He was thus “made perfect” (complete)

3. The battle Jesus fought

a) He fought against the Devil
b) He fought Satan who controlled people by fear
c) He fought and gained the victory
i) Fear is overcome
ii) The sting of death is no more
iii) We are released from the power of death
iv) We have the promise of eternal life

4. Glorious results

a) Jesus was sanctified
b) He sanctifies those who belong to Him
c) Both are now “sanctified” as “one”
d) He calls us “brethren”
i) He proclaims us before the LORD God
ii) We are called “the children of the LORD God”
iii) We are His People and He is our LORD God

5. Christ our High Priest

a) He is a merciful and faithful High Priest
b) He has made propitiation for us
c) He is able to come to our aid
