And the Truth Shall Make You Free

THE INCIDENT OF A SINFUL WOMAN BROUGHT TO JESUS

1. The scribes and Pharisees brought an adulterous woman to Jesus

2. They cited the law of Moses to Him

She should have been condemned and stoned to death   (John 8:5)

THE RESPONSE OF JESUS

1. He knew the wicked hearts of the accusers

2. They acted as if they were righteous and sinless

3. His challenge

“He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.”   John 8:7

THE REACTIONS OF THE HYPOCRITICAL ACCUSERS

1. They were convicted by their guilty conscience

2. They walked away   (John 8:9)

JESUS’ WORD TO THE ACCUSED WOMAN

1. Has no one condemned you?   (John 8:10)

2. Neither do I condemn you   (John 8:11)

3. Go and sin no more   (John 8:11)

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

1. Light

“I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”   John 8:12

2. Truth

“You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”   John 8:32
“Therefore, if the Son of Man makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”   John 8:39

HOW MAY WE RESPOND APPROPRIATLY?

1. Consider learning more about the truth that Jesus proclaimed

2. Consider responding well to what Jesus said

a) You shall know the truth
b) The truth shall make you free
