Title: “The kindness and love of God toward man appeared”

INTRODUCTION

1. Commencement of the Christmas series of Messages

2. The theme of this year’s Christmas series is

“Heirs according to the hope of eternal life” Titus 3:7

3. The theme of being “Heirs” is a profound theme to study

4. But it is a fitting theme for Christmas

THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE ANGEL

“For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour,
Who is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:11

1. Jesus would be born in the city of David

a) In Bethlehem
b) This was a prophecy (Micah 5:2)
c) This was fulfilled

2. He would become our Saviour

a) He would save people from their sins
b) He would forgive all sins
c) He would save to the uttermost

3. He is able to offer this salvation

a) Because He is Christ
i) The Anointed One
ii) The Prophesied One
iii) The Chosen One
b) Because He is the Lord
i) Appointed by God
ii) Given both authority and power
iii) He is Lord over all things

THE PROMISE OF ETERNAL LIFE

1. The promise of Eternal life was stated again and again:

a) To the Multitudes
b) To Individuals:
i) To Nicodemus
Born again (John 3:3)
ii) To a Samaritan woman
Water springing up to eternal life (John 4:14)

2. Favourite verses:

a) The right to become children of God through faith in Christ (John 1:12)
b) Eternal life promised to all who believe in the Lord Jesus (John 3:16)
c) Eternal life with no Judgment (John 5:24)
d) An abundant life (John 10:10)

THE DOCTRINE OF BEING HEIRS

1. Part and parcel of the Gospel Message

a) Salvation
b) Sonship
c) Heirs of God

2. Paul’s brilliant statement before King Agrippa

a) The Mission given by the Lord Jesus to Paul (Acts 26:15-16)
b) Paul appointed a witness and a minister (Acts 26:15-16)
c) Ministry of Paul explained:
i) To open eyes (Acts 26:18a)
ii) To turn people from darkness to light (Acts 26:18b)
iii) From the power of Satan to God (Acts 26:18c)
iv) That they may receive forgiveness of sins (Acts 26:18d)
v) And an inheritance among those
who are sanctified in faith in Christ (Acts 26:18e)

THE BASIS OF THIS GLORIOUS PROMISE OF GOD
Two things highlighted:

1. The Kindness of God

a) The lovingkindness of God
Your lovingkindness is better than life (Psalm 63:3)
b) The kindness of God (Titus 3:4)

2. The Love of God

a) The appearance of God’s love
b) In the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ
